Our Oyster Farm

My husband Al and I have been shellfish farming in Little Pleasant Bay in Orleans since 1994. We started out raising Littleneck clams and steamer clams, and now raise only oysters. We sell our oysters to a local wholesale market, who then distributes them to local restaurants. We have been told by many people that they are the best oysters they have ever tasted..

Its a great job that we do from March - November. Pleasant Bay is a beautiful place. Not a bad office to work in. Here are some pictures of how we farm the oysters. It takes an average of 3-4 years for the oyster to reach it's legal size for selling, which is 3" long in Massachusetts. For more information on Oyster Aquaculture go to www.massaqua.org.
